Corgi was a not-for-profit organisation founded in 1970 which works to a tight remit laid down by the Health and Safety Executive. Since 1990 it became a legal requirement for any business working with gas in the UK to be Corgi registered. The Gas Safe Register replaced CORGI as the gas registration body in Great Britain and Isle of Man on the 1st April 2009. Gas engineers have a range of qualifications that allow them to carry out specific types of gas work. Clients need to satisfy themselves that contractors are competent.
The Oil Firing Technical Association (OFTEC) is a representative body for the oil heating and cooking industry in the UK and Ireland, launched in April 1991 to construct a framework within the oil firing industry. Every OFTEC registered technician must hold a certificate of competence issued by a UKAS Accredited Certification Body. OFTEC tests and approves oil-firing equipment and represents the industry in discussions and regulatory agencies. OFTEC’s Codes of Practice set standards for the industry, and are followed by its members.
The Building Engineering Services Association (BESA) is the UK’s leading professional body for building engineering services association. Founded in 1904, providing quality services, promoting excellence and shaping the commercial environment through representation. Active in the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC) products and equipment. All BESA members are subjected to inspection and assessment comprising the two main elements of Commercial Capability and Technical Competence. We are proud members of the BESA.

The Institute of Gas Engineers & Managers (IGEM) is an independent professional membership body serving the gas industry. As a global network, with a Royal Charter, IGEM’s aim is to disseminate information to all in the gas industry. IGEM also writes technical standards which are trusted Industry Standards, used to assist in compliance with national legislation and official approved codes of practice and guidance. We are proud to be members of the IGEM.
The Contractors Health and Safety Scheme (CHAS) enables companies to satisfy tender conditions relating to health and safety in respect of most work undertaken for public and private sector clients and main contractors. In 1997 a group of health and safety procurement professionals from across Great Britain worked with the Association of London Government (ALG) to develop CHAS. Contractors show compliance with important parts of health and safety law (the core criteria described in the CDM regulations) We are proud to be CHAS compliant having been successfully audited by the UKAS accredited certification body BM Trada.
